Decision near on Bieber egging charge

Justin Bieber turned 19 on March 1. He won't be able to claim the "teen" in his pop star title for much longer.

The year 2013 wasn't very kind to Bieber; a paparazzo died in oncoming traffic after attempting to take a photo of the singer's car. A week later, photos hit the Web alleging marijuana use by Bieber. The singer kept his sense of humor through the ordeal, joking about it in his first stint as host of "Saturday Night Live." Here he performs in Washington in December.

Bieber cleans up at the American Music Awards in November, but the young artist is left out completely when the Grammy nominations are announced a few weeks later. Add an alleged murder plot to the mix, and it's fair to say December 2012 wasn't the best month for the Biebs.

Bieber's relationship with Selena Gomez seemed to end at the end of 2012, although their actions sparked rumors of reconciliation just about every other week. Regardless of their on-again, off-again status, Bieber chose to take his mom, Pattie Mallette, as his date to the 2012 American Music Awards.

Los Angeles (CNN) -- While Justin Bieber decompresses on a Panama beach after a wild week in Miami, a prosecutor will decide if the teen pop star will face a felony charge in Los Angeles.

Detectives who went frame by frame over security video seized from Bieber's California mansion are close to carrying their egg attack evidence to the Los Angeles district attorney for a decision.

While Bieber's drunken driving arrest in Miami Beach on Thursday earned him his first mug shot, a felony vandalism case could be the biggest threat to Bieber's freedom and ability to tour the world.

"We will have a dialogue with the district attorney and determine, based on what we have, when we should bring the case over," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. David Thompson told CNN on Friday. "We will then take the case to the D.A. It will be up to them to file charges and what charges at that time."

Bieber's bad behavior

Justin Bieber is rarely spotted without a crew of a few friends, which sometimes also includes his longtime manager, Scooter Braun (pictured left). Along with R&B singer Usher, right, Braun has served as something of a mentor and guide to Bieber as he's grown up in the spotlight.

Singer Khalil is a regular on Justin Bieber's Instagram account, but he's getting even more publicity now that he's been arrested along with the pop star on suspicion of DUI. Khalil, 19, released a single called "Stars" in June 2013.

Even as he's become astronomically famous, Bieber hasn't lost touch with his Canadian childhood friends. Ryan Butler (pictured right in 2011) is a familiar face to Beliebers both on and off the red carpet, and he considers Bieber a brother. On Twitter, you'll often catch him offering Bieber supportive tweets like this one.

While Lil Za is known to dabble in rapping with an aspiration to act, he's best known as the guy who tends to crash at Bieber's Calabasas pad and drive his cars. That's how Lil Za ended up getting arrested on January 15 -- he was a house guest when police raided Bieber's home as part of a felony vandalism investigation, and cops said they found Xanax and Ecstasy near the 20-year-old's bed.

Ryan Good was the guy who was labeled as Bieber's "swagger coach" in 2009 and 2010, although he was also acting as a road manager. By 2011, Good gave up his position as a "swagger coach," but he and Bieber are still close.

Bieber has been known to refer to blockbuster actor Will Smith as "Uncle Will," and the star's manager, Scooter Braun, explained in a 2013 interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Smith serves as another mentor for Bieber. Braun said Smith and Bieber have instituted a weekly call to help the teen star work through any issues.

Given Bieber's closeness with Will Smith, it makes sense that he's also good friends with Will's son, Jaden. Occasionally misinformation has spread about what the 15-year-old gets into when he hangs out with his older pal; Jaden had to squash a rumor after Bieber's 19th birthday in 2013 that he'd gone clubbing with the star.

With their shared love of cars, graffiti and body art, is it any wonder that Chris Brown and Justin Bieber have bonded? After Brown went to rehab for anger management issues, Bieber showed his support by tagging "Free Breezy" on a wall in Bogota, Colombia.

Rapper Lil Twist is another member of Bieber's crew who has a weakness for luxury cars. The Young Money artist, who can also be found at times hanging out at Bieber's place or cruising in one of his cars, was arrested on suspicion of DUI in 2012. He was driving Bieber's chrome 2012 Fisker Karma.

Drake, seen here with Bieber in 2011, is another star who's taken the young singer under his wing. According to Braun, Drake is one of the first people to rip into Bieber after spotting a tawdry headline about him in the news. "He'll text me, like, 'What the hell is going with this? I'm pissed. I'm calling him right now. I'm about to go in on him,' " Braun told THR in 2013.

Selena Gomez is Bieber's ex-girlfriend, but she has a habit of popping up unexpectedly every now and then, making us think it's possible they might still be in contact. Bieber shared this cuddly photo on Instagram soon after the New Year.

Although a felony could carry jail time, probation appears much more likely if Bieber is ultimately convicted. Chris Brown, who pleaded guilty to assaulting Rihanna on the eve of the Grammys five years ago avoided time in a California jail despite the violence involved in the beating of his girlfriend.

But the five years of probation for Brown has proven to be a major hindrance to his music career. He is now in court-ordered rehab for three months and will have to spend several days each week until August working on a community labor crew to complete his probation requirements.

5 questions about the case

As with actress Lindsay Lohan, Brown has been found in violation of probation rules several times, resulting in additional travel limitations, rehab stints and work requirements.

Probation could have Bieber walking on egg shells for several years if he is convicted of launching eggs over a fence onto his neighbor's mansion. His probation officer would possibly have to approve any travel outside of California, which could hamper the world touring that contributes to his income and fame.

Although Breathalyzer tests suggest Bieber was not too drunk to legally drive when he was pulled over by Miami Beach police early Thursday, it could be two or three weeks before tests are back from the lab which should give a more accurate blood-alcohol reading and could tell if he was high on pot.

Bieber blew .011 and .014 in two Breathalyzer tests given to him at the police station, according to a source with knowledge of the results. Florida's legal limit for drivers under the drinking age of 21 is .02. The police report said that Bieber failed a field sobriety test given to him at the police station. He admitted to drinking, using marijuana and taking prescription pills, police said.

Bieber has a 'frat house' amidst millionaire mansions

The Miami prosecutor said no date has been set yet for Bieber to return to court on the DUI, resisting arrest and expired license charges.

Although Bieber was not charged with speeding, the arresting officer said it was his reason for stopping Bieber and testing his sobriety.

The head of the exotic car rental company that owns the yellow Lamborghini he was driving told CNN on Saturday that the GPS tracking system in the high-performance car indicated that Bieber never exceeded 55 mph in the 15 minutes before the stop.

The Breathalyzer tests and the GPS information could help Bieber lawyer Roy Black in his defense of the singer.

Bieber fled Miami late Friday, boarding a private jet for a flight to Panama City, Panama. Paparazzi photos showed Bieber strolling along a beach on the Pacific Ocean on Saturday, kicking a soccer ball while others kite surfed above the waves.

He could learn this week if his next trip is to a Los Angeles courtroom.
