Coffee flour for a caffeine kick

A type of flour produced from coffee cherries has been developed which has apparent health benefits – along with a caffeine kick.

The flour, made from the dried pulp of coffee cherries, which is the fleshy covering of the bean itself, could be on supermarket shelves within a year.

The gluten-free product is made by grinding down the dried pulp of the coffee cherry, which surrounds the bean.

The product creators say that the product can be baked into bread and cakes and provides a caffeine hit. A decaffeinated version is also planned.

The flour’s protein and fibre content are being pushed as its main selling point because the flour has five-times more fibre than wheat and three-times more protein than kale.

CF Global Holdings, a company run by former Microsoft executive Dan Belliveau, is behind the product.
