42 detained in joint bust worth over two million Euros

IN a joint operation between the Guardia Civil and Hacienda (Inland Revenue Service) 42 people have been detained on suspicion of buying and selling stolen cars and drug trafficking.

As well as detaining the 42 people, the police also confiscated €200,000 in cash, 10 cars, 2.5 kilos of cocaine, 15 kilos of a cutting substance and they dismantled two laboratories which were used to process the cocaine with the cutting substance prior to its sale on the streets of Spanish cities.

The 42 detained people are suspected of belonging to an organised crime gang and would have defrauded Hacienda out of over two million Euros with the buying and selling of the cars and drugs.

They created fictitious companies to ‘fence’ the cars in several countries, among themRomania, Bulgaria and Portugal; these companies were also used to launder the money which was obtained from the sale of the stolen cars and the drug trafficking.

The organised crime gang used ‘mules’who would bring the cocaine to Spain from the Dominican Republic inside their bodies.

The 42 detained stand accused of, among other charges, crimes against public health and belonging to an organised crime gang.
