Alicante drought called "historic"

Alicante's dry spell has been described by the Laboratory of Climatology as ‘historic’ and ‘Sahara-like’.

Just seven litres of water per square metre was recorded between January and April.

This is the lowest figure since records began and is just half of the previous record period, 1893, when 13 litres were recorded between January and April.

The head of the Laboratory of Climatology at the University of Alicante and Professor of Geographical Analysis, Jorge Olcina, described the situation as “becoming worrisome” because “we never had a start to the year with so little rain.”
