Now that the winter storms, which affect the beaches, are over, Torrox council is working on developing new projects to improve the situation on the municipality’s beaches.
Mari Nieves Ramirez, PSOE councillor for beaches and tourism, has commented that they are currently working on the traditional landing zones that exist in the area.
The first thing that needs doing, according to Ramirez, is the removal of the extra sand that arrived with the winter storms and all the flotsam and jetsam that is strewn around the beaches.
She goes on to comment that, at the same time that they remove all the “foreign objects” from the beach, they are also looking into removing some of the boats which have let their licenses expire and no longer have the right to be there.
This clean up is consistent with the Malaga Provincial Government's plan to spruce up all the beaches before the tourist season starts and council workers can no longer have proper access to all areas of the beach.
Ramirez went on to comment that the tourism in the area is strongly linked to the fishing industry as it creates, not only a source of income for those involved in the industry, but also a “romantic backdrop against which to spend your holidays”.
