Carboneras fights back over hotel

The people of Carboneras have had their say on the Hotel Algarrobico with action of their own.

Days after Greenpeace activists moved in on the hotel to leave the message ‘Hotel Ilegal’ painted on the facade, it was the turn of the townspeople.

To the cry of ‘Yes to the hotel’ and ‘we want the hotel’, more than 200 residents of Carboneras met up at the controversial hotel.

With paint and rollers at the ready, the group promptly painted out the letter I, leaving the words to read: ‘Hotel Legal’.

Organiser of the peaceful protest Pascual Diaz said:”We wanted to express the ill feeling in the town. We would like the hotel open, to inject money and bring jobs to the town, and improve the quality of life in Carboneras. We have done what we had set out to do,we have removed the I from illegal and we have two tins of paint left which I can return. We have got our point of view across.”
