Nine national TV stations to close?

On May 6 Xplora, Nitro and LaSiete, among others, are all closing down but the reasons behind this closure are a little obscure.

According to the current government the fault lies with the previous government which adjudicated the bandwidths incorrectly.

The previous government assigned the TDT (digital terrestrial television) signals to the stations without making them go through the usual application process as stipulated by law in 2010.

Therefore all stations set up in this way now have to close down and start the application process from the beginning - despite having been transmitting for several years.

Although Atresmedia and Mediaset (the two media platforms most affected) have made appeals to the courts there has been no change in the decision of the present government.
