French flight strikes affect Spanish holiday makers

Strikes by French air traffic controllers are causing havoc to holiday makers as flights across Europe are cancelled or delayed.

The strike, which is in protest of prospective changes in air navigation in France, is expected to last for six days. However French authorities have predicted that the number of flights affected will not be as bad as first feared.

Flights to Spain are thought to be affected as they will have to travel into French airspace. Several airlines have cancelled flights as of this morning including Easyjet which cancelled around 25 per cent of their scheduled flights to France. The company has promised customers that they can exchange their cancelled bookings for alternative travel dates, after June 30when the strike is expected to end, or a full refund.

French authorities are trying to keep disruption to a minimum, but with around 17,000 seats booked form the UK each week alone, it is expected that many travellers will experience long delays, if not having to cancel their holiday plans altogether.

Passengers have been advised to check with their airline prior to arriving at airports.
