Malaga province has received almost half a million national tourists since the start of the year. According to data released by the INE (National Institute of Statistics) 498,764 national tourists have stayed in hotels in the province since January; this is five per cent up on last year’s figures.
Elias Bendondo, president of the Costa del Sol Tourism Board, underscored the fact that the internal demand for tourism has gone steadily up and was helping to support the local economy’s recovery.
Other provinces which also have a similar number of national visitors are, among others, the Canary Islands and Valencia.
Although the numbers of tourists have gone up the bigger rise has been in the number of overnight stays in hotels which has gone up by almost 11%.
Most of these tourists have come from other Andalucia provinces but Madrid is still one of the biggest providers of tourism with an increase of 14% and Cataluña with an increase of 5%.
