Man threatens to blow up his own house

A MAN in Arcos de Jalon, in Castile and Leon, threatened to commit suicide by blowing up his house but later gave up after around five hours during which he was ‘talked down’ by a specialist from the Guardia Civil.

A spokesperson for the government of Castile and Leon announced the peaceful resolution of the situation which had the whole neighbourhood on edge.

Around 30 families had to be evacuated, from six blocks, in the area just in case he actually carried out his threat.

The man, 50, appeared to have had some sort of psychiatric problem for years and told the Guardia Civil that he was a licensed chemist. He explained to the bomb disposal squad (TEDAX) which elements he had at his disposal to make the bomb, and upon confirming the ingredients they took him seriously.

The man, born in Switzerland, but a native of the area through relatives, lives occasionally in the town and has another house in Soria which the TEDAX have already checked out.
