29 gang members detained by the Guardia Civil


GUARDIA CIVIL have detained 29 members of a gang, including a police officer, which specialised in robbery and drug trafficking.


A large number of weapons were seized as well as drugs,vehicles and drug dealing paraphernalia.


Within the framework of operation ‘Villaguapo,’ the Guardia Civil detained the men who were selling cocaine, methamphetamines, hashish and marihuana in Alhaurin de la Torre and nearby villages.


As well as the drugs, Guardia Civil officers also confiscated 12 vehicles, five firearms, more than €3,000 in cash, a large amount of jewellery and top-of-the-range watches, 10 computers, 59 mobile phones, cameras and other electrical goods.


Investigations started in February when 21 people were detained, since then another eight people have been arrested - seven of whom are already in prison.


The drugs were being sold, in large quantities, from the homes of the gang members as well as certain bars, in smaller quantities, which they would use to sell to the public in general.


During the investigations into the drug trafficking the police officers came across other crimes which were being committed. These include the ill treatment of animals and the falsifying of official documentation which was being used to qualify its holders to manage heavy machinery.


All those detained stand accused of crimes against public health as well as other individual charges. The detained are on remand in Malaga until their cases can be heard.
