London’s Westminster Bridge hosted today the official Global launch of the FIA Formula E series Championship.
More than 500 guests attended the prestigious event, where eight electric Formula One-style racing cars entertained the fans with 'doughnuts'.
The most exciting motorsport innovation in a generation has been backed by Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), and is scheduled to organise 10 zero-emission races in 10 different cities around the globe, starting in September this year.
The CEO of promoter Formula E Holding, Alejandaro Agag, said: “They will all be in city centres, easily accessible by public transport, and will feature some of the most beautiful and well-known landmarks as a spectacular backdrop for the races.”
As the first race draws nearer, Battersea Park in South London has been revealed as the official venue for London, the race around the park will be the Formula E season finale and is set for June 27 of next year.
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson had predicited that: “The atmosphere will quite literally be electric and Battersea, which is already booming with the buzz of regeneration, will be alive with the excitement that this new, world-class event will no doubt spark. The FIA Formula E Championship race in London is set to provide an awesome addition to the capital's sporting calendar.”
