ACTING Mayor of Orihuela, Antonio Zapata, has signed a letter to Correos calling for the suspension of the removal of the home post delivery service in Orihuela Costa.
The service is due to be removed from September 1 in the areas of La Regia, Campoamor, Cabo Roig, La Zenia and La Zenia II, but following uproar from residents and political groups, Zapata has called for a halt on the move whilst appeals are made and the issue is legally resolved.
The decision to stop home deliveries and replace them instead with mailboxes and a collection service, was adopted on the grounds that there is a population density of less than 25 inhabitants per hectare, as the whole area is divided into smaller urbanisations.
However, the Government team have filed an administrative appeal on the grounds that Orihuela Costa as a whole is an established urban area with a much higher population.
