A MAN has died in the streets of Sevilla after being tackled by the police.
The man, 37, went into cardio-respiratory distress after being tackled by the police for being aggressive towards passers-by. Officers at the scene commented that he appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.
The incident began when a person went into the Macarena police station to tell them that there was a bare foot man in the streets shouting at people and wandering around the road being a danger to traffic.
Officers arrived at the scene and tried to calm the man down as he was in a highly agitated state. The officers were already aware that the man had a history of substance abuse and criminal behaviour so they approached with care and tried to handcuff the man as soon as he became physically aggressive towards the passers-by.
Given the state of the detainee the officers called an ambulance to help them control him but before it could arrive the man went into cardio-respiratory distress and, despite the efforts of the officers to perform CPR, died.
A post mortem will be done by the Sevilla authorities but police brutality is not suspected in this case.
