Six black flags for beaches

ENVIRONMENTALIST group Ecologistas en Accion recently published their annual report on the Valencian Community coast.

The organisation ‘awarded’ 30 black flags to the region’s beaches where, they claim, analysis of the seawater found amounts of organic waste above legally-permitted limits.

Six Ecologistas’ black flags went to Alicante beaches: Molins and Raset in Denia, Postiguet in Alicante, Arenales del Sol in Elche as well as Roquetas and Vivers in Guardamar.

There was also a black flag for the now-postponed Castor scheme to store gas in a disused oil well off Vinaroz (Castellon) and another for the modified Coastal Law.

On a more positive note Tabarca, located midway between Alicante City and Santa Pola, received a green flag after rubble and debris were removed from the island.
