(CNN) -- Comedian and actress Cecily Strong will headline the White House Correspondents' Association annual dinner in April, the group announced Wednesday.
Strong, who's gained a national profile as a performer on NBC's "Saturday Night Live," will become the fourth woman to headline the annual event in the dinner's 82-year history. This year's event was headlined by "The Soup" host and actor Joel McHale.
"Her political humor is sly and edgy, and it comes with a Chicago accent," WHCA President Christi Parsons, who serves as the White House correspondent for the Chicago Tribune and the L.A. Times, said in a statement.
Strong also has a connection to the news media: Her father, Bill Strong, was the former Associated Press bureau chief at the Illinois Statehouse.

The actress grew up in suburban Oak Park, Illinois and kicked off her career in Chicago's improv and comedy community, notably at iO and Second City.
On SNL, some of her notable characters include being anchor on "Weekend Update" and as "The Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started a Conversation with at a Party."
"I look forward to seeing her at our head table, where I plan to seat her next to some other well-known Chicagoans," Parsons said.
The dinner is scheduled for April 25.
