A CAVE has been discovered in the centre of Torremolinos.
It was found during work to install underground rubbish containers in the Calle Loma de los Riscos, when part of the cave roof collapsed.
Since then, four people, including three potholers from the Malaga Sports Potholing Association have been inside and taken photos. They reported that the cave has a 30-metre horizontal gallery, and is between four and seven metres high and three and five metres wide. They also speak of rock formations which have taken thousands years to form.
It appears that as there was no visible entrance to the cave, no-one has ever been inside before. The potholers have asked for the area to be protected and for access so they can investigate it further.
Just 200 metres away, there is another cave, which was found when a bar was being built and can be visited. Torremolinos also has the Bajondillo Cave which is near the sea and some distance from the others. Evidence of the presence of Neanderthal men has been found there.
