Axarquia bans beach spot snatchers

People are to be banned from 'reserving' space on the beach with a towel or sunshade then disappearing for hours on end.

Torrox council has banned the practice in an attempt to avoid the usual scene of people turning up early in the morning and reserving the best places on the front line by placing their coolers and shades there and then going off for breakfast and coming back, sometimes up to two hours, later.

Mari Nieves Ramirez, councillor for beaches, has commented that this practise was unfair to the majority of beach goers and has got much worse in recent years.

Together with the difficulty in cleaning the beaches when there are coolers and towels in the way, has led the council to reach this decision.

The police have commented how pleased they are with this decision as they are often called out to settle disputes between beach goers who are arguing about who was where first.
