New York (CNN) -- The body of New York fashion designer James "Jay" Ott was found floating in New York Bay off Brooklyn, according to police.
The cause of death has yet to be determined, said Julie Bolcer, spokeswoman for the city's medical examiner's office. Ott's body was found Thursday.
Ott, 31, was last seen on March 22 in his residence, said police. He was reported missing two days later and posters with his likeness multiplied around subway stops and other locations.
Ott was the design director at fashion conglomerate The Dock Group, where he started in October 2013, according to his LinkedIn page. The Dock Group could not be immediately reached for comment Friday.
Ott was tasked with leading design for small fashion houses Rosetta Getty and Crippen.
He was immersed in the New York fashion scene of designer clothes, previously lending his talents as senior designer for The Row, established by twins Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen. He also worked for storied French evening wear house J.Mendel.
