PSOE documentary screening

Carboneras saw the screening of the PSOE documentary ‘Las maestras de la Republica’ (Teachers of the Republic) last week.

The film won the Goya prize for ‘best documentary feature’ in 2014, and pays tribute to the teachers who participated in the modernisation of education in Spain during the Second Republic and the Civil War.

Directed by Pilar Perez Solano, the film uncovers the legacy left by these women, based on democratic education and uses some previously unseen files.

However, not all ran smoothly on the night, as just hours before, the discovery was made that the projector, speakers, and cables had gone missing.

An alternative solution was found but PSOE spokesperson, Francisca Serrano, attacked the PP in response to the hitch.

She accused the PP of trying to “trip” the screening, and stressed that the matter could be more serious than originally thought because the equipment had been purchased “with the people’s money” and the “loss would be a sign of irresponsibility by the Councillor for Culture”.
