An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale was felt in southern Spain on Wednesday night. It struck at 20.36pm and was reported in the provinces of Jaen, Malaga and Granada. As of now, there have been no reports of injuries or serious damage.
A spokesperson for the 112 emergency service has stated that the National Geographic institute reported that the epicentre of the quake was in southwest Arenas del Rey in Granada. It had a depth of 62km, latitude of 36.89 degrees north and a longitude of 3.92 degrees east.
This is not the first measurable earthquake in Spain this week. On Tuesday a small quake was felt in Catalonia’s Lieda province. Some locals believed that a meteor was to blame after reports of bright lights in the sky just moments before the quake hit. However, experts have since ruled this out and the lights were probably reflected moonlight.
