(CNN) -- Nine months could be winding down to the last nine days.

In an interview that aired Sunday, former President Bill Clinton gave the closest clue yet as to when to expect the former first family's first grandchild.

"I hope by the first of October, I'll be a grandfather," Clinton told Fareed Zakaria on CNN's "Global Public Square."

To date, the Clintons have been tight-lipped about news regarding the pregnancy of their daughter Chelsea Clinton, but they haven't been shy about sharing their excitement.

Chelsea Clinton's prediction that this would be the Year of the Baby came true! The only daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expecting her first child with husband Marc Mezvinsky. "I just hope I will be as good a mom to my child and hopefully children as my mom was to me," Clinton said when she shared the big news.

Steven Tyler has something new to sing about. The Aerosmith frontman's daughter Liv is reportedly expecting her second child. Her 9-year-old son, Milo, is from her prior relationship with British musician Royston Langdon. Liv Tyler is currently said to be dating David Beckham's pal Dave Gardner.

Linda Perry, left, and Sara Gilbert are adding an addition to their family. The couple, who wed in March, are now expecting their first child together. Gilbert has two kids from a prior relationship with TV producer Allison Adler.

Britain's Prince George is about to be a big brother. Buckingham Palace announced that Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William are awaiting baby No. 2.

Carrie Underwood tweeted on September 1: "In honor of 'Labor' Day...Ace & Penny would like to make an announcement. Their parents couldn't be happier!"

Shakira and her athlete beau, Gerard Pique, are making room for one more. The Colombian singer announced on August 28 that she and Pique are expecting their second child together. Their first child, son Milan, was born in January 2013.

Milla Jovovich announced via Facebook in August that she and her husband, director Paul W. S. Anderson, are delaying filming "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" because she is pregnant with their second child.

R&B star Alicia Keys and her husband, Swizz Beatz, will soon be singing more lullabies. The couple celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary on July 31 with the announcement that they're expecting their second child.

Zoe Saldana showed off a growing baby bump at the premiere of her movie "Guardians of the Galaxy," leading to speculation in August that she and her husband, Marco Perego, are expecting their first child.

Nick Lachey and wife, Vanessa, are thinking pink. He announced on Twitter that they're expecting their second child together, and it's going to be a girl. The Kardashians are making room for another addition. On the ninth season's summer premiere of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," Kourtney confirmed she's expecting her third child with partner Scott Disick. Kourtney, second from left, later shared this photo of her growing bump while she was having fun with friends on June 22.

Either Kelly Rowland really likes baby shoes, or she's expecting a new arrival. On June 10, the singer shared a photo of men's sneakers next to a matching, infant-sized pair on Instagram. The caption read, "I'll be stuntin like my daddy." Given that Rowland just tied the knot with her manager, Tim Witherspoon, it's a safe bet he's the daddy she's referring to.

"I can't wait," Clinton told Zakaria. "We're on watch now."

His wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, says she's been thinking a lot about the upcoming new addition to her family.

"Now I've been thinking a lot about family because you know I'm on 'grandbaby watch' and I think a lot about this new member of our family and what he or she can look forward to," Clinton said at a women's event Friday.

"And I am well aware that we will do everything possible to prepare this child, to protect this child. But I want that for everybody's child and everybody's grandchild. I want every one of our children to feel that they are inheriting the best of America, that they have the chance to do what I believed was possible for me and what my husband believed was possible for him and what we instilled in our daughter that really this country is on your side.

"This country will give you the fighting chance, the fair show you deserve to have. This country will give you the level playing field. So whether you're the grandchild of a president, or the grandchild of a janitor, whether you're born in a city or in a small rural village -- No matter who you are, you have the right to inherit the American dream."

Asked whether he cared if the baby was a boy or a girl, Clinton gave a hard "no."

Neither he nor the baby's parents know the baby's gender, he says.

"I don't know," Clinton said. "My daughter and son-in-law decided not to know. They want to be surprised."

Chelsea Clinton announced her pregnancy at an event alongside her mother on April 17. Assuming that she made the traditional three-months-along announcement, the birth is expected to occur sometime this month.
