Illegal dinghy intercepted off Torrevieja

A dinghy with between eight and 10 immigrants aboard has been intercepted in Spanish waters off Alicante province, and has been towed to Torrevieja, according to sources at the Cruz Roja.

At the moment, further information about the origins of the dinghy or its occupants is unknown, although it is believed that it was the Guardia Civil that approached the vessel and towed it to shore.

Cruz Roja volunteers are currently en route to Torrevieja to provide support and care to the immigrants.

Since August, 77 immigrants have been picked up off the coast of Alicante, excluding the occupants of the most recent incident.

Last Thursday, three vessels with a total of 20 people were intercepted attempting to land along the Costa Blanca.
