- Two F/A-18 Hornets collided
- The cause of the crash is under investigation
(CNN) -- A Navy pilot missing and presumed dead after two jets collided over the western Pacific Ocean has been identified as Lt. Nathan Poloski, 26, of Lake Arrowhead, California.
Poloski was flying an F/A-18 Hornet when it collided with another Hornet aircraft during routine flight operations Friday.
The pilot of the second plane was rescued, treated and has been released from the ship's medical facilities.
But despite an extensive search, which covered more than 3,00 square miles, Poloski's remains have not been found.
He has now been declared presumed dead.
The two jets crashed about 290 miles (470 kilometers) west of Wake Island. Wake Island is more than 2,400 miles west of Hawaii.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
