Provincial Council to invest €1.2 million in Velez Malaga museum

THE Provincial Council of Malaga is to invest €1.2 million in the Velez Malaga City Museum.

As many as 2,000 objects are to be on display at the museum, located in Hospital San Juan de Dios – formerly known as Hospital de San Marcos –, a historic building founded by the Catholic Monarchs Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon in 1487, said Culture Councillor Jose Antonio Fortes.

Located at Barrio del Pilar, it served as a military hospital during the 19^th century and was later used as a home for senior citizens for almost 100 years.

Visitors to the museum will learn about the history of Velez and the Axarquia from prehistoric times to the 21^st century, commented Urban Planning, Infrastructure and Operative Services Councillor Concepcion Labao.

The funds to be invested in the remodelling of the hospital were allocated through the Productive Investments Plan.
