Apology demanded from Malaga Bishop

A court in Malaga has set Monday as the day on which Malaga Bishop, Jesus Catala, should make amends with a transgender child.

The date had been set for April 21, but was postponed.

Following statements made by the bishop, the legal representatives of the child’s mother demanded a retraction, considering that he had committed a crime of calumnies and injuries against the child and the family.

The mother still plans to take the bishop to court.

The bishop claimed in January that the bishopric had been “abused” by the Junta de Andalucia and the child’s mother after problems arose regarding the child remaining in a Catholic school in Malaga.

The child, who was born a boy, identifies with the female gender a wished to be called by a girl’s name, use a girl’s uniform and the girl’s toilets.

The Junta de Andalucia supported this, but the Bishopric argued that while they defended the child’s human rights, there should be no attempt to “direct” his sexuality and that he could be “damaged” by being treated as a girl as the Junta and his mother proposed.

The mother denies having “manipulated” her child’s sexuality as the bishop suggested.
