Superman in Gibraltar

IT’S usually a rock of Kryptonite that tests Superman’s amazing abilities, but it will be a rock of a different kind that will test the Man of Steel this weekend: the Rock of Gibraltar.

British actor Henry Cavill, who played Superman in Hollywood blockbuster Man of Steel, will be in Gibraltar to take part in this October’s Rock Run to help celebrate the 350th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Marines.

Cavill, aged 31, will join his Royal Marine brother Nik and other runners as they take on the rock in a five-kilometre uphill climb. If he has any of the superhuman speed of his comic book counterpart, then Cavill should have no trouble scaling the rock in first place.

The Rock Run is a Royal Marines tradition that this year will raise money to help injured and wounded Marines. Governor of Gibraltar, Lieutenant General Sir James Dutton, said: “To hold the event on the 350th anniversary of the birth of the Royal Marines Corp, which carries Gibraltar as its principal battle honour, is indeed special.”

The run is just part of a number of activities taking place in Gibraltar this weekend to honour the Royal Marines. See www.gibrockrun.co.uk for more details.
