UK Pupil Suspended for Using Teacher´s Name

A pupil from Wellington Academy in Wiltshire is in trouble for calling his teacher – by his name.

Sean Roberts, 14, has been suspended for five days for referring to his teacher by his Christian name – Barry – outside of school hours.

The schoolboy has been banned from Wellington Academy, Wiltshire´s first academy, and in the mornings and the afternoons he must attend the school’s ‘department for naughty kids’.

Sean’s mother Julie Roberts, 42, demanded her son be allowed back in class “as the punishment is over the top”.

Hairdresser Mrs Roberts claimed that the academy is ‘making an example' of her son.

Mrs Roberts, who has already lost 106 pounds in wages staying at home to look after her son, said she was only told about the punishment in an evening phone call from Head of Department Barry Seymour.

A spokesperson for the school said: “He has been sanctioned for an accumulation of incidents. It was not a one off - it was a tipping point.”

The school said: “We acted proportionately.”
