Gatwick brought to a standstill

HOLIDAYMAKERS and expats trying to return home suffered delays as Gatwick Airport was brought to a standstill when a plane got stuck on the runway.

An Air China plane bound for Beijing had just taken off when it had to turn round due to technical problems on board the aircraft.

Once back on the ground, problems with the aeroplane’s steering became apparent, as it was unable to taxi off the runway.

Other planes had their take off times pushed back as the stranded aircraft had to wait for a truck to come and tow it out of the way.

With the plane safely off the runway, air traffic could resume as normal, but not before numerous aircraft and their passengers had undergone delays to their schedules.
