HOTEL chain Vita Hoteliers has been blighted with problems lately, with strikes breaking out amongst employees leaving a whole host of unhappy customers.
According to Spanish tourism website preferente.com, on Tuesday September 2, the Hotel Delta in Mallorca had its water and electricity cut off due to overdue bill payments which resulted in a torrent of complaints from the 500 guests staying there at the time.
Now, however, it is the chain’s hotels in Almeria that are taking the fall after employees in Almeria’s Alcazaba Mar hotel refused to work during a busy lunch service.
Employees at the hotel, who had not been paid for several months, finally decided to do something about it.
At midday, when they were supposed to begin lunch service, they flatly refused to work. Seven hundred guests were left hungry, and some were so angry that the National Police had to take control of the matter.
The tension was alleviated when hotel management promised to pay their staff their July and August salaries within the next three days.
The Alcazaba Mar is not the only hotel in the Vita chain with problems relating to staff pay. Staff working at the Gran Hotel Almeria are also waiting to be paid. The staff there are currently on strike and a solution is yet to be reached although payment has been promised.
