Hurricane Gonzalo batters Britain

If you’re looking to fly in or out of Heathrow airport in the next few days you have little to no chance with over 100 flights being delayed or cancelled due to the backlash of Hurricane Gonzalo that hit Bermuda last week.

Winds of up to 75mph are hitting the UK at the moment causing havoc for local transport businesses and commuters, leading several popular airlines such as British Airways and rail companies to be forced to postpone and cancel their services.

If you aren’t flying and you don’t commute by rail, hopefully your travel plans only go as far as minutes away from your home, as the motorways are heavily congested with traffic. A section of the popular A1 road near Cambridgeshire has been closed due to an overturned lorry, as well as other difficulties up and down the country with fallen trees and vehicle accidents limiting how far people can travel.

The Met Office have warned those likely to get affected in coastal regions and in particular around Norwich, Cumbria and South London areas to be prepared for a flood, as within the next 24 hours the UK is expected to see two weeks worth of rain.

Gonzalo is also affecting residents and holidaymakers in Tenerife with flash floods occurring frequently, so tourists currently on holiday are missing out on their winter sunshine and being told to stay indoors for safety reasons.

Hurricane Gonzalo hit Bermuda last week destroying homes and causing chaos for residents with several floods and blackouts and there are already three dead and three injured in the UK due to storm related casualties.
