Six Spanish companies bid for Malaga Metro

SIX Spanish construction companies have submitted tenders to build the next phase of the Malaga Metro.

Acciona, OHL, Sacyr, Ferrovial Agroman, Dragados and FFC have all entered the race to be awarded the contract that will put them at the helm of an ambitious 33-month and €45-million project to extend the underground all the way to Alameda Principal by late 2017.

The construction project is expected to create 500 new jobs and runs from Puente de Tetuan to Calle Torregorda, a distance of 295 metres.

The Junta de Andalucia regional government estimates that as many as 21 million people will use the Malaga Metro system every year once construction is completed.

The project to build an underground in Malaga dates back to the late 90s and was conceived to find a solution to the traffic chaos in the city.
